Note: This is an "EXPLORATORY" trip. This means that there are parts of this trip, or perhaps the whole trip, that is new to your Trip Leader(s). However, they are confident that this will not be an issue.
This note is here so that you can make an informed decision. When a Trip Leader isn't personally familiar with a trip, there is an increased chance of things not going as planned and you need to be prepared. The Trip Leader may have additional details in the itinerary.

Itinerary:

Thank you to Ron for sharing his hike. Thank you to Kip for co-leading with me.

Hike is exploratory as I have done the loop starting from the other direction.

NOTE:  This hike is part of a series of hikes, 7/7-7/13.  There will be no carpool as I will be staying in Hiawassee.

Standing Indian Campground is full of fun trails to explore. Join me as I meander by a scenic mountain creek, enjoy the AT in NC and summit Standing Indian Mountain with its amazing views.

We will meet at the kiosk near Standing Indian Campground where ample parking will await. A short road walk will take us to the Kimsey Creek trailhead. We will hike length of this trail accompanied by the sounds of a mountain creek with plenty of rock hopping and opportunities to cool off in the creek that is the namesake of this trail. A left turn at the junction with the AT will start us toward Standing Indian Mountain.  Perhaps a quick detour to the shelter for lunch or we will push on to the summit of the mountain where a majestic vista will be enjoyed by all.

After enjoying the views we will head down the notoriously steep Lower Ridge Trail that will take us back to our cars to complete our loop hike.

This is a difficult D5 event, recent D4/D5 experience is required to join the fun.  If you do not have this experience, you will be moved to the waitlist and I will be in touch with you.
