Itinerary:

When finished, the 335 mile Pinhoti  National Recreation Trail will be a continuous point to point hiking trail that travels through nearly equal measures of high rocky ridges, stream filled gorges and quiet hollows along the final southern reaches of the Appalachian Mountains from east central Alabama to northwest Georgia. It courses through the Talladega National Forest, the Alabama Forever Wild Land Trust, and private easements. The Pinhoti northern terminus is in north west Georgia near Blue Ridge, where it intersects with the  Benton MacKaye Trail around mile 70. Hiking east 70 miles on the BMT will put you at Springer Mountain, the southern terminus of the Appalachian Trail.
Its southern terminus is in east central Alabama at Flagg Mountain
near Weogufka, which is known for being the last southern Appalachian mountain that rises above 1000 feet.

After leaving one or two cars at Adams Gap we will drive a short distance to our starting point at Porters Gap. From Porters gap the trail heads north along the ridge of Talladega Mountain, then drops down to Talladega Creek. After crossing the creek and a railroad line, the path resumes its ascent around Talladega Mountain, reaching a small stream after 5 miles. Here we will camp for the night. The next day we will walk approximately 10 miles. We will head northeast along the north slope of the mountain, drop to Clairmont Gap, start climbing again on switchbacks until we reach the ridge top, eventually going down to another creek before ascending to Adams Gap.
