Note: This is an "EXPLORATORY" trip. This means that there are parts of this trip, or perhaps the whole trip, that is new to your Trip Leader(s). However, they are confident that this will not be an issue.
This note is here so that you can make an informed decision. When a Trip Leader isn't personally familiar with a trip, there is an increased chance of things not going as planned and you need to be prepared. The Trip Leader may have additional details in the itinerary.

Itinerary:

DISCLAIMER: This is a guided, exploratory hike. We will have a guide but I have not done this hike before. Also, there is a $10 charge per person for the hike - due by June 29.

This is a Ranger-guided hike to the Summit of Panola mountain.  NOTE: this is a nature hike, not a fitness hike, so expect us to go slowly with stops as the Ranger explains things.

The hike is about 3.5 miles long and along the way we will learn about the history of the area, flora and fauna, and the geology of the mountain.

The 100-acre granite peak of Panola Mountain is similar to Stone Mountain but smaller and much more pristine. This rare ecosystem is a conservation area and access is only allowed with a guide.

Although most of the hike is along wooded trails, we do walk over several patches of exposed granite which can be fun and dangerous at the same time. Please make sure you wear appropriate footwear with good traction so that you can tackle the (sometimes) slick granite.

Hiking sticks are allowed, but cannot have a metal tip.  Rubber, plastic, or wood are ok.  No dogs.
