MALLORY Day climb (STONE MOUNTAIN)

George Mallory... Yes, that Mallory... was born on June 18, 1886, became a premier climber in his early adulthood and in 1924, was (arguably) the first person in the world to summit Sagarmatha (Mt. Everest). When asked why he wanted to climb Mount Everest, Mallory quipped "Because it's there!" Closer to home, Stone Mountain is also there, so let's go climb it in honor of Mallory's grit, determination, love of the outdoors, and his 240th birthday.

We'll meet and begin our ascent near the restrooms at the Whistle Stop area, feel the burn as we head up the rock, enjoy the views at the summit, regroup near the Geo-markers, and then return to the parking lot. Go Mallory!

DISCLAIMER: This is a brisk, moderately strenuous hike with 700+ foot elevation gain and a substantial amount of rock scrambling. If you have mobility issues, are recovering from injury, or prefer a slower pace, please sit this one out!

1. Please, no unregistered guests or +Ones!

2. In order to earn credit for this event, participants must begin and complete the entire hike/event with the group, within the stated time frame.

3. Late cancellations, particularly within 36 hours of the event, make it difficult for those on the waitlist to attend. Please be courteous to your fellow AOC members and cancel with as much notice as possible.

4. When an event has an active waitlist, the trip leader reserves the right to assign a “no show” to members who sign up and fail to attend the event.

5. If you need to get in touch, the best way is to TEXT me with your NAME at 4O4 7-Five-4 5OO5. FYI, thanks to those annoying robocalls, calling me will send you to my voicemail, but feel free to leave a message.

6. I usually hike RAIN-or-SHINE, except in severe thunderstorms, or freezing rain.

7. In case of severe weather or other unforeseen emergencies that warrant a cancellation, I will text/email you at least TWO HOURS before the start of the event.

There is no cost for this event, however, entry to Stone Mountain Park is $20 per vehicle, or $40 for an annual pass, which can be purchased at the gate, or online here: https://stonemountainpark.com/tickets-specials/parking/

If you want to avoid the fee, you can park for free outside the Park or on Main Street in Stone Mountain Village and walk or ride your bike for free into the park.
