Salmon River Whitewater Rafting Trip

(Note: I recently set this trip up for myself joining others through RowAdventure outfitters but since there are still a lot of spaces available for this date I decided to make AOC members aware by making it an AOC event. I put the cap at 10 but if the date maxes out before you reserve with RowAdventures you will not be able to attend. As of 6/15 there are 15 spots left for the 8/27 date. Since it its less than 3 month away, I'm not sure how much interest there will be in going at this time but I thought it worth letting everyone know it's available. I hope to join with other AOCers on the trip.)

If you are still looking for an adventure later this summer this may be the ticket: A 5 day whitewater trip on the famed Salmon river in Idaho, "The River of No Return" the setting of the movie by the same name. It will be a 50 mile excursion on one of the rivers most magical stretches, the lower Salmon canyons. I've spent considerable time searching for the perfect trip in terms of adventure, logistics, cost, outfitter and best time to go. And there is still room on the RowAdventure August 27 - 31 trip, while spaces last. 

The links below provide all you need to make a decision and make your reservations. I would make reservations with RowAsventures ASAP as these dates are open to the public. As of June 15 there are 15 spots available for the 8/27 trip. I have not reserved any spots except my own. Again you are responsible for setting up all reservations: rafting trip, hotel, flight. It is up to each person to arrange for a roommate if you want to split the cost of a hotel room. 

All of the rapids are moderate class II and III with one class IV. Each raft will have a guide unless you request a single inflatable raft. No experience is needed unless you request a single. Paddling will be about 6 hours a day on what is called a pool-and-drop river where there's plenty of calm water in between rapids. This allows for swimming and fishing (with a valid Idaho license) between rapids (small mouth bass are plentiful in August). Plus at the end of the day rafting, there will be plenty of time to swim and fish from the sandy beaches. There will be time as well to explore some of the trails near the river.

All costs and reservations will be handled between you and RowAdventure, the Hells Canyon Grand Hotel and of course the airline. As you will see, RowAdventures handles everything during the 5 days including transportation from hotel and back, supplies, meals, camping equipment, guides...everything! We will be camping riverside on sand beaches.

You will need to book a hotel room for 8/26 and 8/31. Arrange with hotel for free ride to and from airport.

Arrive no later than August 26 and depart no earlier than September 1. There is a Delta flight that gets in to Lewiston Idaho at 11:43 am 

(Context on the $2090 outfitter price: There are 3 other multi-day rafting trips in Idaho, all are 6 day trips, about 80 miles, more difficult logistically to get to and all about $3500.) 

The $2090 for the rafting trip includes everything except personal items. (see RowAdventures link to website.) 

All costs and booking arrangements associated with this trip will be made my the participating member directly with RowAdventures, Hells Canyon Grand Hotel and Delta airlines, including all other ancillary costs.
