What great weather we've had this week! Looks like Saturday will be a sunny 70 around the ATL. And, bonus! It seems like Fall color is peaking here right now too, so let's get out there and enjoy it while it's here! This hike will be easier and more leisurely than most hikes I like to do, and we'll plan to take to take pictures of the various Fall flora and fauna. And, I'll admit it... I'm hunting, too. Did you know that gourmet mushrooms like apricot chanterelles, boletes, oyster, maitake, and lobster mushrooms might be growing right in our own backyard... or in our local forests? It's true! Now, I have NO intention of eating anything we may find on our hike; I haven't been trained in how to safely identify wild mushrooms. However, I really want to learn, so if I do see something interesting, I'll probably want to take pictures and notes about where I found it growing and so on. (In other words, if you're a speed hiker or don't like plants, you'll probably be bored.) If you have any expertise in plant identification, please be sure to share it with us! We'll take a few hours for a leisurely hike around the trails, river & ruins of Vickery Creek. There are a couple moderate hills but for the most part this hike is fairly close to being a D1. If you're new to hiking and want to try some moderate elevation gain (and like photography and plants), this hike could be for you! We'll hike between 3-5 miles at Vickery Creek, and from there we may drive up the road to another one of the Hooch parks so we can see a few waterfalls. This would add about a mile to the hike and if memory serves, most of that is super easy and flat. Alternately, we may want to take advantage of some of Old Roswell's fine restaurants... Inc Street Food, Fickle Pickle, Ceviche, and that cupcake place are firm favorites! | |||||||

How to Get There: | |||||||
Event Directions: | The Trailhead is located East of Roswell Road (on Riverside Drive; the other side is Azalea). Note, you will either need to pay or use a permit to park at the trailhead. Alternately, you can park at the far end of the giant, free parking lot across the street, which is what I'm doing. If you do this, please meet me there by 8:55, so we can walk across the street to the trailhead together. From northbound US 19 and GA 400
