Moderate to Strenuous 7-mile hike

This hike was so beautiful last week, Bruce wants to return, post inventory, to take wildflower pictures with the group, and do it all again. From the parking lot it is a short walk to the overlooks to Upper Whitewater Falls, some 441’ tall, tallest waterfall east of the Mississippi. From the lower overlook, we descend into the Whitewater Gorge on a winding trail replete with spring wildflowers, including trillium, dwarf iris birdsfood violets and others. The trail follows the Whitewater River for a couple of miles, before turning inland to the trail to Lower Whitewater Falls in South Carolina. It is also some 400’ tall. After many photo opportunities and climbing out of the Whitewater Gorge and back to our cars, those who want can dine afterwards at a the Steakhouse Cafeteria in Walhalla, SC.

NOTE: Be advised the first part of this hike will be done at a slower pace to allow for picture taking of the waterfall and several shots of wildflowers, then open up to better pace when we reach the bottom of the Whitewater River Gorge and valley

How to Get There:
Event Directions:North & South Carolina Park and ride only From the park and ride lot we will travel on highway I-85 to the first exit in South Carolina, where we will travel about 32 miles north on Highway 11 north.
