This is a challenging hike. Any members who sign up without recent D5 experience in the club should expect an e mail from the Trip Leader to determine their level of suitability for the hike. I am commited to keeping the group together during the hike. If you are faster, I am fine with you headed up hills at your own pace, but we will stop and re-group often. This hike will be at a moderate pace of around 2.5mph as I am recovering from treatment and getting my hiking legs back slowly. Join me in my quest for some lovely views and cooler temps. We will begin our hike at the Arkaquah Trailhead and immediately start a somewhat brutal two mile ascent with 2200ft of gain. Once we have accomplished this feat, we will enjoy a more rolling (but still hard) trail over several mountains until we reach our summit destination. From the trail we will arrive at the parking area of Brasstown Bald which has a shop, picnic tables and restrooms. From the lot we will walk up the 0.6 paved path to the summit of Brasstown Bald at 4784ft. From the observation deck we can see GA,TN,NC and SC if we get a clear day. Brasstown Bald is the highest point in Georgia so fingers crossed for excellent 360 degree views. We will stop for a lunch break at the summit. Brasstown Bald summit boasts its own microclimate and I am super confident we will find the perfect spot. We then retrace our steps back to the cars. We may finish early, but I have allowed some extra time for photos and viewing. Parking is a bit limited at the trailhead so if you want to car pool with sign ups, then feel free to arrange it. This event has no official carpool. | |||||||
