Itinerary:
Come join me for a somewhat "local" trail in the metro Atlanta. It lies in the heart of Cherokee County.  It's local for me anyway since I grew up down the road and Cherokee county is part of the metro. :)

The Etowah River trail was built by Boy Scout Troop 241 in Canton, GA.  The trail is well traveled and continues to be maintained by the boy scouts. A map was just recently published of the area. I've been hiking here a lot and it's a unique place that I'm excited to be able to share.

We are going to try and make a figure eight out of the trails making this hike around 7 1/2 miles. We'll start our hike from the backside of Boling Park. We'll cross over a bridge that was also built by the boy scout troup and from there we can start out loops. Depending on rainfall, we'll see some small creeks along our path. There will be a variety of plants and wildlife that can be enjoyed throughout the trail. We'll also find a rock outcrop near the Etowah River that has names engraved in the rock. It's pretty cool and I honestly don't know the history. I can't find anything about it either.

Directions (If you can't find on GOOGLE maps above)

Take I-75 North to I-575 North

    From I-575-N, take exit 16 and merge GA-140 W/GA-20 W toward GA-5 N.

You are going to come to a stoplight (Williamson Brother BBQ is to the right of the light). This is GA-5 (Hwy 5). Take a Right on GA-5N.

Travel a little less than 1/2 a mile, cross over the Etowah River bridge and take next left into Boling Park. (Big sign in the front of the park)

(If you pass Cherokee High School, then you've gone just a tad bit too far. Boling Park is actually behind the school and runs along the Etowah River).

Ok, so once you turn turn into Boling Park, continue until you come to the back of the park. You'll pass a lot of soccer fields and watch out for those speed bumps!!

Park in the very back of the park. There's a ton of of parking back there. We'll be meeting in the Pavillion to which is on the right once you get back there. The park does have restrooms.

    Notes:

Will this event occur rain or shine?  No, not in severe weather

Can I bring my dog?  Unfortunatly no dogs are not allowed in a City of Canton park. Boling Park is a city park and the first part of the trail starts in the city park.
