This note is here so that you can make an informed decision. When a Trip Leader isn't personally familiar with a trip, there is an increased chance of things not going as planned and you need to be prepared. The Trip Leader may have additional details in the itinerary.

Itinerary:

Located northeast of Vancouver, Whistler is a premier hiking destination in beautiful British Columbia, Canada. With the exchange rate in our favor and mountains to climb, lets go on an awe inspiring trip together!

The Hikes

Its unlikely we will do all of these hikes, I have a set of tired leg hikes we can do if needed.

Sunday: Rohr Mountain (10 miles/3759ft D5) Lets start our week off right! Great views with a fun scramble. What could be better? This hike has a beautiful lake and an awesome summit! What could be better? No parking pass is required.

Monday: Rainbow Pass (12 miles/3051 ft D5) Waterfall, Mountain Lake, Mountain Pass... Yes Please! No pass is required for this hike. This trail is currently closed, but with some luck it will be open for us.

Tuesday: Screaming Cat Trail (12 miles/3218 ft D5)  Lakes, Lakes and more lakes. Don't forget the meadows and flowers! Screaming Cat lake gets its name from the shape of the lake... we will be the judge. Lunch at Iceburg Lake with a cold dip, if you dare! We will need day use and parking passes for this hike.

Wednesday: A well deserved easy day. Today will be a day for an easy hike and a little sight seeing as we rest our legs for the rest of our adventure.

Thursday: Panorama Ridge (17 miles/5324 ft D6)  Our biggest climb of the week. We have the option of shortening our hike, but who wants to do that on what will be the best hike of the week. Get ready to be over-awed on this beauty! Parking and day use passes are required for this hike.

Friday: The Gargoyles (16.3 miles/4196 feet D6) Our last day of hiking will be awesome! The views are great and we cannot pass up anything that says Gargoyles. What a way to end our week. After the hike we head to our house for a shower and our last night at the house. In the morning we head to the airport. A parking pass is required for this hike.

This is an aggressive hiking schedule, I have a list of shorter trails we can use if heavy legs or bad weather get in our way. I also have a list of more difficult hikes if the group feels so inclined.

Training

Preparation is the key to a trip like this. I will be scheduling weekly D5/D6 training hikes leading up to our trip. Each individual is responsible to show up ready to hike, don't let yourself be the one holding up the group.

I am normally a fast hiker, but when surronded by mountain peaks, I slow down. And if I don't, you can remind me to and I will. Promise.

Lodging

I have arranged for a luxurious home near Whistler with 8 bedrooms and 9 bathrooms! There are 11 beds in this house, so I will be looking for volunteers to share a king sized bed. If I have no volunteers, trip leader discretion will be used to find a suitable pair. Bribes accepted. We will head to the airport on Saturday morning.

I will be making room assignments based on club status, time of sign up, volunteer activities and gender mix.

Transportation

Each hiker is responsible for air travel to Vancouver Airport by 2 o'clock on Saturday. SUVs will be included to support our adventures and will whisk you away from the airport to our luxury accommodations. Car rental and gas are included expenses. If you cannot make the 2pm deadline, you will need to rent a car or take a really long uber.

Food

Food is not included in the price. There is a TBD that should serve our needs. Please buy enough breakfast and lunch supplies to last the week and assume we will be eating out for dinner every night.

Who should sign up

I am looking for fellow adventure seekers that are STRONG, independent hikers with low-drama personalities. If you need someone to carry your bag or get you out of bed, this may not be the best event for you. A total of 12 people will be allowed on the trip. All AOC members are welcome to sign up, I will be selecting the group based on the following criteria:

  • Time of sign up
  • Strength of hiking experience (D6 required)
  • Activity in the club
  • Low drama personality
  • Fit within the group dynamic

At signup time you will initially be placed on the waiting list. The group will be selected based on the above criteria and you will be added to the active roster and be given a link with which to pay. Once the attendee roster is published, we will give a time frame for attendees to pay. If you don't have D6 experience (email me if your experience is outside of the club), you will remain on the waitlist. As a note: Bring trekking poles! People who say they don't need them tend to fall down and get hurt. Failure to bring poles will disqualify you from several hikes.

Failure to pay within the given timeframe will result in your removal from the active roster.

You can help:

This is group living and the whole group will need to help out to ensure the best outcome. You will be given several choices on how you can help including: be a driver, pick restaurants, backup navigation, king of the kitchen (and many more)... more on this as the time gets closer...

Required Items to Bring:

Layers and more layers.

Clothing for snow hiking

Clothing for rain hiking

Clothing for windy peaks

Trekking poles

Recommended Items to Bring:
Use our Event Checklists to make sure you have everything you need.

Camera

Binoculars

Notes:

You may ask, "Why are we signing up and paying so early?". That is a good question, accomodations fill up quickly, I was able to grab this premier location by signing up and paying early. Once all participants have paid, I will get reimbursed for the accomodations.

You may also ask, "What happens if I cannot make the trip?". Another good question, assuming there is a wait list (there will be) and you drop before July 1, 2027, you will be reimbursed all but $35 when your replacement pays.

Important information for paid events in which payment is managed through the AOC:
