Note: This is an "EXPLORATORY" trip. This means that there are parts of this trip, or perhaps the whole trip, that is new to your Trip Leader(s). However, they are confident that this will not be an issue.
This note is here so that you can make an informed decision. When a Trip Leader isn't personally familiar with a trip, there is an increased chance of things not going as planned and you need to be prepared. The Trip Leader may have additional details in the itinerary.

Itinerary:

Please join me for a hike on the Bartram Trail on Friday, September 25th starting at Warwoman Dell outside Clayton, GA. The trail is densely forested with beautiful waterfalls and mountain streams including a double tiered waterfall at mile 2. We will make a left turn at 3.2 miles to climb the Pinacle Knob Trail to the summit. I have hiked this trail once before - about three years ago (my first D4). Since it's been awhile, I am going to label it exploratory although I will be using alltrails. We will take a lunch break when we get to Pinnacle Knob.

The total elevation is 1800 feet and the distance is 8.7 miles making this hike a D4 level. Recent D4 experience with the AOC is required. Please contact the trip leader if you have other hiking experience that might qualify you for this hike.

We will stay together during the hike and walk at a 2.5 mile/hour pace.

Required Items to Bring:

Sturdy hiking boots/footwear

1-2 liters of water

Backpack

Rain gear (just in case)

Lunch snack

How to Get There:

There will be an informal carpool for the hike. I will not be at the carpool but I can facilitate everyone else using it. (I live in Augusta and will be in North Georgia from Wednesday - Saturday and won't be in Atlanta for the carpool.)

The carpool will meet at Indian Trail Park/Ride, 1800 Indian Trail Lilburn Rd. NW, Norcross, GA 30093 at 7:15 a.m. with departure at 7:30 a.m.

From Indian Trail Park/Ride, take I-85 from Atlanta until it bifurcates; take the left arm to I-985 N, which becomes GA 23. Stay on it for 76 miles. Turn right after Clayton Food Mart on the right onto Rickman St. Turn right onto Warwoman Rd for 2.4 miles. Turn right onto Warwoman Dell Lane.

Notes:

I will be at the Ingles in Clayton at 9:00 a.m. (176 Hwy 441) if anyone wants to stop for a bathroom break or a ride to Warwoman Dell.

* We encourage all members to follow our Etiquette Guidelines while participating in AOC events.

Cost Includes:

Estimated cost per vehicle is $72 using a reimbursement rate guideline of $0.40 per mile, divided by the number of people in each car, including the driver. This amount is a guideline, not a rule, for drivers but the cost should not be higher unless unusual circumcstances arise.
