Itinerary:

Join me for an trek though the Cheaha wilderness on the Odum Scout trail. This is an explorer trek b/c I have not started from this trailhead; however, I have camped at our endpoint by starting from another trail so I'll be familiar with our surroundings.

We'll start our journey from the High Falls trail head and march about 5.2 miles to our campsite. The campsite holds 5 tents comfortably, but we can squeeze in a 6th tent. If this campsite is full, we'll have continue on another 1.5 miles to an alternative campsite.... if that one is full, we'll need to hike another mile north. I really don't anticipate any campsite being occupied though.

The group size (six folks to start ) of this event is limited to the number of tents. When you sign up, please indicate the following in the notes section

  1. you are definitely tenting alone
  2. have a two person tent and/or are willing to share with another AOC member of the same sex,
  3. have a two person tent and/or are willing to tent with anyone
  4. are a couple (indicate who your S.O. is)
  5. are using a hammock tent.
These choices will directly affect the number of folks who can join us. The more the merrier. I'll coordinate all of your responses to ensure we can get as many wait list folks to join in on the fun.

The Odum Scout Trail is about 5.2 milesfrom trailhead to our intended campsite. The initial gain is fairly tough with a elevation gain of 900 ft in the first 2.5 miles, but it's pretty flat after that. We take our time for anyone who needs it.

Itinerary is hiking in at a comfortable pace, grab lunch along the way in, setting up camp, gathering fire wood, and hopefully heading to a view point to catch the sunset. We'll return to camp and get the fire roaring while we chow on dinner. We'll wake in the morning and head back the way we came in after a nice breakfast.

Required Items to Bring:

headlamp, appropriate gear for the weather/temp, lunch for Saturday, dinner Saturday, breakfast for Sunday, snacks and water for the trail in and out.

Please pack some empty Nalgene bottles in addition to your hiking water. Our intended camp is only a few hundred feet from a water source, but our backup sites are about 1.5 miles away from water sources.

I'l be bringing my first aid kit and my water filter. Everyone is more than welcome to use my filter

The total amount should be divided by the number of people in the vehicle, including the driver. This is a guideline, not a rule, for drivers but the cost should not be higher unless there are extenuating circumstances.

Notes:
This even will not occur rain or shine b/c backing in lousy weather is not fun. If there is a high probability of nasty or wet weather, I'll most likely cancel. Pay attention to the pre-event emails ans we'll work out any nastiness.
