Itinerary:
Easy

Ok, time to get back to some basic pioneer camping so we can relax and enjoy ourselves.

Fort Mountain derives its name from an ancient 855 ft. long wall which stands on the highest point of the mountain. The mysterious wall is thought to have been built by indians as fortification against other more hostile indians or for ancient ceremonies.

The park offers a variety of outdoor activities. Hikers and mountain bikers will find some of the most beautiful trails in northern Georgia. Most trails wind through hardwood forests, blueberry thickets, occassionally cross streams and provide spectacular vistas. During our stay, I am sure the beach will be open on the lake for swimming.

Most folks know my itineraries are fairly relaxing. Friday night we will setup camp, cook dinner and enjoy ourselves around the fire. Saturday morning will be breakfast followed by easy to moderate hike in the park with lunch on the trail. Most of the afternoon will be open for you to explore the park (I plan to hit the beach!) or relax in camp. Saturday night we will cook a nice dinner. Sunday will be breakfast and then pack for home.

NOTE: The campsite is 520 ft from the parking lot. Please be prepared to carry your gear. There are pit toilets but no running water.
