Itinerary:

When finished, the 335 mile Pinhoti  National Recreation Trail will be a continuous point to point hiking trail that travels through nearly equal measures of high rocky ridges, stream filled gorges and quiet hollows along the final southern reaches of the Appalachian Mountains from east central Alabama to northwest Georgia. It courses through the Talladega National Forest, the Alabama Forever Wild Land Trust, and private easements. The Pinhoti northern terminus is in north west Georgia near Blue Ridge, where it intersects with the  Benton MacKaye Trail around mile 70. Hiking east 70 miles on the BMT will put you at Springer Mountain, the southern terminus of the Appalachian Trail.
Its southern terminus is in east central Alabama at Flagg Mountain
near Weogufka, which is known for being the last southern Appalachian mountain that rises above 1000 feet.

After leaving one or two cars at Cheaha Trailhead we will drive a short distance to our starting point at Adams Gap.
From Adams Gap we will walk about 6 miles in the Cheaha Wilderness until the  intersection of the Pinhoti with the Odum Scout trail and the Chinnabee Silent trail. Before reaching our campsite we will have to climb some two thousand feet through a boulder field.
The next day we continue north, making a side trip to the McDill Point Overlook. The walking distance this day is also around 6 miles.

This section of trail offers beautiful views of the sorrounding mountains and valleys below.
