Itinerary:
Want to try a cool bike ride?  This segment of the Big Creek Greenway is a fairly new section and it's eventually going to connect with the Alpharetta and Roswell sections.  Right now it stands on its own though and it's more rural than the southern sections.  It's quite nice actually.  Like the sections to the south, it's mostly flat with only about 100 feet of total elevation change one way.

We will meet at the the southern trailhead off of McFarland Road. The one-way distance is 6.8 miles, so out and back is 13.6 miles.  Everyone can go at their own pace, but at these temps, the trip leaders probably won't exceed 10 mph due to the wind chill factor.  It should take us 2 hours at the longest.  It is a lot more straighforward than the southern sections in that there's not a bunch of pathing decisions to make along the way.

Message from Danny: The biggest complaint I hear about on these rides concerns cold feet.  I dress as if I'm about to head up the Arkaquah Trail in the winter: gloves, polartec cap, polartec shirt, gortex jacket, long underwear, and my hiking boots with liners and wool socks.  Not exactly biking attire, but the truth is that I don't have any of those fancy riding pants or riding shoes, but even if I did I would wear my warm hiking clothes and boots and be more comfortable.  The second largest complaint is cold hands.  I recommend gloves that can block the wind versus the sock type where air can flow through them.  Handwarmers would probably help, but I haven't tried them yet.

Park in the lot on the right side parking lot of McFarland Parkway (if heading from GA-400) and we will meet at the little trail map kiosk for sign-in.

Recommended Items to Bring:
Use our Event Checklists to make sure you have everything you need.

How to Get There:
Event Directions:From GA 400 heading north, get off at Exit 12 - McFarland Parkway.  Take a right off the exit, heading SE and the trailhead parking will be on the right in less than a mile.

Notes:

NOTE: You are responsible for your bike maintenance and/or repairs on the traiil.  Others I'm sure will be willing to help as much as they can, but do the proper pre-ride maintenance every time before you ride.
