Itinerary:
Hiking Trails at Vogel State Park
BEAR HAIR TRAIL - This 3.6-mile orange-blazed loop trail is ideal for family hikes. It is of moderate difficulty, beginning and ending in Vogel State Park.

COOSA BACKCOUNTRY TRAIL - 12.5-mile loop. This strenuous trail is marked with yellow blazes and signs and for the most part is easy to follow. It fords streams on its lower part and traverses the high Duncan Ridge, including Coosa Bald at over 4,000 feet.

We will be hiking both trails and will use Bear Hair Trail as a warm up and then go to conquer the Great Coosa Backcountry Trail.

Mar 5, 2011 Sunrise 7:02 AM Sunset 6:37 PM 11h 35m 47s

Drive from park and ride should take 1.5 hours.

This is NOT a beginners hike so be sure you in good physical condition.  If you haven't done a D4 or D5 hike before this might not be for you.  We will do both loops in a day. I hope we can do it in about 8 hours but it would be wise to bring a headlamp or flashlight in case we are delayed for some reason.  We will meet at the 400 - Mansell Park and Ride and leave at 7:00 AM Sharp! If the group is so inclined we may take a spur to the summit of blood mountain.  I'd like everyone to meet at carpool but if you live north of there let me know and we can meet you at the park.  We will need to check in at the ranger station and get a free permit before we start.  There is a parking fee at Vogel.
