Itinerary:
Want a local hike this Saturday Morning?  Join us for a walk around, up and down The Stone (Stone Mountain) this Saturday.

Due to some people already having park passes, we plan on meeting inside the park behind Confederate Hall in the parking lot at 9:30.  This is located at the bottom of the walk up trail.  If you would like to park for free outside of the park (Parking admission is $10 and I plan on not paying that) see directions below.

From the parking lot, we will hike shortly along the road, then take the connector trail through the Nature Garden Trail and then connect with the Cherokee trail. The Cherokee Trail is approximately 5 miles around Stone Mountain. The trail takes you around the mountain, along the lake, behind a the mill, and even over rail road tracks. Once we get close to the Conderate Hall, the trail begins to climb along the mountain.  From here we will then hike up to the top, then back down (2 miles round trip).  We will be traveling at a moderate pace for the hike with periodic breaks for snacks and pictures.

Even though we should be finished around lunch time, or a little after, feel free to bring some snackage to eat once we summit the top while we rest up for our final hike down.

Required Items to Bring:
Good Shoes/boots.  The mountain can be slippery on the climb up, so "grippy" foot wear is a must.
Water
Snacks
Recommended Items to Bring:
Use our Event Checklists to make sure you have everything you need.

How to Get There:
Event Directions:Thanks to Rhett Smith for these directions, I snagged them off of his event :-)

Directions: To the main entrance- From I-285 take U.S. Hwy 78 East (Snellville/Athens) exit. Travel about 7 miles and take Exit 8, the Stone Mountain Park Main Entrance. After entering the main entrance, proceed straight ahead. The road will fork at about 1 mile - stay to the right. Continue to follow the road for another mile. Confederate Hall will be on your left. The parking lot will be immediately after. We'll meet behind Confederate Hall near the walk up trail.

If you would like to try the free public parking in Stone Mountain Village, from Hwy 78 take exit 5 and merge onto GA 10. Proceed 0.5 miles to the first exit. At the end of the ramp turn left. Drive a mile or so, past a gas station and a funeral parlor (both on your right). When you see City Hall turn left. There is a Marta park and ride on fourth street. From there it is a short walk on East Mountain Street. Enter the park through the gate and you'll be at the parking lot where we'll be meeting.
