Itinerary:
This is a beautiful spot in North Georgia. I hope you can make it for this fun, easy, and nearby hike. I have been here many times and have always been so impressed by the easy driving access, short hike (approx 1.5mi) to a wonderful spot on the river, and the return hike (about another 2 miles). And, yet, it is truly a fairly remote and uncrowded Appalachian experience - that we all so love.
This is a loop trail that starts outside of East Ellijay in the Rich Mountain Wilderness Area, and winds down to the Cartecay River. We'll hike to the river, hang out on the rocks for a picnic lunch, possible swimming ; ), sunning and play.  Once we've had enough - probably around 2 and 1/2 hours total - we'll head back to the cars through the woods - probably around a 2 mile hike back to the cars.  There are several lengths of loop trails to choose from.
My hiking pace is typically moderate with potentially a lot of stops for photography, berry picking, and viewing the scenery. This is a fun, relaxed day and we won't be in a hurry or rush.
Total hike and lunch time is approximately 3 hours.
Total drive time is approximately 2.5 hours.
Best guess is that we'll be back at Chastain around 4 pm.
