Itinerary:

Join us for a great hike around the mountain. The weather is currently predicted to be in the 70s with clear skies, so this should be a nice hike. Bring your camera!

We will meet near the restrooms behind Confederate Hall. If you don't know where that is, please email or call me. We will be hiking counter-clockwise in case parking is a disaster and you arrive late (this happens alot, so plan to arrive early ... please)

I plan to keep a moderate pace. Please bring water and optionally, a small snack.

The sun will probably set on us near the end of our hike. The trail is flat and easy to traverse at this point, but please bring a small flashlight or headlamp just in case you want to see more clearly. Of course, we can always move over to the paved sidewalk if needed.

Several of us will probably meet at the local tavern just down the road from the entrance for dinner. You are welcome to join us if you like.

Good Shoes/boots. The mountain can be slippery, even in dry conditions, so please bring appropriate shoes.

How to Get There:

Thanks to Christopher Bolton for stealing/borrowing these directions from Rhett Smith, so I could copy them off of Christopher's event :P

Directions: To the main entrance- From I-285 take U.S. Hwy 78 East (Snellville/Athens) exit. Travel about 7 miles and take Exit 8, the Stone Mountain Park Main Entrance. After entering the main entrance, proceed straight ahead. The road will fork at about 1 mile - stay to the right. Continue to follow the road for another mile. Confederate Hall will be on your left. The parking lot will be immediately after. We'll meet behind Confederate Hall near the walk up trail.

If you would like to try the free public parking in Stone Mountain Village, from Hwy 78 take exit 5 and merge onto GA 10. Proceed 0.5 miles to the first exit. At the end of the ramp turn left. Drive a mile or so, past a gas station and a funeral parlor (both on your right). When you see City Hall turn left. There is a Marta park and ride on fourth street. From there it is a short walk on East Mountain Street. Enter the park through the gate and you'll be at the parking lot where we'll be meeting.
