Itinerary:

Starting from Andrews Cove, north of Helen, we'll first walk the Andrews Cove Trail, gaining over 1000 feet in elevation in less than two miles.  This should serve as a nice warmup!

Upon reaching Indian Grave Gap, we'll head west and complete the Rocky Mountain Trail loop, which is aptly named, because we'll cross over Rocky Mountain.

We'll then head east on the Appalachian Trail until we reach, and climb, Tray Mountain.  With an elevation of 4430 feet, we'll enjoy the scenic view.  We'll then retrace out steps to Andrews Cove.

While your trip leader will be armed with trail guides, he has not hiked this route before.  Therefore, you should be in sufficient physical condition to hike additonal distances if we should miss a turn.

The total distance of the hike is approximately 12.9 miles and elevation gain is at least 3200 feet.  While we will want to enjoy the scenery around us, we will also seek to average 2.5 mph.  The pace will vary according to terrain, elevation, time, and other factors, but will generally be moderate.  This will not be a race, and we expect hikers to re-group at all trail intersections.  However, the pace is also fast enough that you must be in good shape to avoid struggling.

After our hike, having earned a reward for our efforts, we will stop for dinner before returning to Atlanta.
