Itinerary:
This is an easy trail located in the Lake Russell Wildlife Management Area in the scenic Chattahoochee National Forest, in northeast Georgia.  The trail initially follows picturesque Dick's Creek, then turns to follow the Broad River.  We'll see a rich variety of mature hardwoods, plenty of cascading water features and perhaps some wildlife and wildflowers.

The trail will be 7.1 to 8.2 miles (depending on whether we do a loop or an "out and back"), with minimal elevation gain of about 200 feet.  We'll hike at an average pace with a brief rest stop every 15 or 20 minutes.  While this is not a power hike, you need to have the ability to maintain a steady pace.

After completing the Broad River Trail, we'll go down and check out Lake Russell for a little while.  We may hike a little way down the trail around the lake, just to get a feel for it, but we will not hike the entire trail.

After we are through hiking, we will find a local eatery and enjoy a late lunch/ early dinner.

Notes:

(1) Your trip leaders have not hiked this trail before.  We have studied the guide books and will have our materials in hand.  By all accounts, the trail is well marked and easy to follow.  Nevertheless, you should have a sense of adventure and be in good enough condition to walk further if we miss a turn.

(2)  The time estimate for the trip is just an estimate.  If you have a pressing engagement in Atlanta, you may want to bring your own car and skip dinner.
