Itinerary:

The Cohutta Wilderness covers 37,000 acres that spill over the Georgia/Tennessee border and lie within the 95,000-acre Cohutta Wildlife Management Area.  Since being designated as a wilderness in 1975, the area is returning to the way it was when only Native Americans lived here.

We will be hiking the Conasauga River Trail - a perfect trip for those seeking a great rustic wilderness experience.  Be prepared to get yourself and your dog very wet as we expect to do about 18 or more river crossings (each way).  Bring hiking poles/sticks for balance and waterproof your gear.

Please be aware that depending on rainfall, some river crossings can be waist high.  If you are bringing a dog, make sure that they love getting wet or are small enough to carry across. We will not stop at each river crossing to change shoes so please be prepared to walk with wet feet.  Hiking boots will quickly become soggy foot weights so you might want to wear hiking sandals or old tennis shoes.

The entire trail is 12.1 miles, but we will hike in about 4-6 miles depending on where we decide to camp (camping is permitted anywhere except on the trail/trailhead).  Next day we will backtrack to our vehicles.
