Itinerary:
If you're a club member who's been looking to move up to the D5 level, here's a great little hike for you. Of course, old time D5 hikers are welcome too! From Rock Gap, we'll hike about 6 miles on the Appalachian Trail to Albert Mountain. Atop the mountain is a fantastic fire tower. I cannot guarantee that it will be unlocked, but I was there recently and was able to climb to the top for an incredible 360 degree view. We can take our time at the top for taking in the views and lunch. Then we'll hike the 6 miles back to the cars and the ride home. I encourage you to check out the two AT shelters along the way and this time of year we're sure to run into several thru-hikers on their way to Maine! If everyone is up for it we'll enjoy a post hike dinner at La Cabana in Clayton.

Total hiking distance - about 12 miles. Elevation gain - about 1380 feet.

Note: This is not a beginner's hike. You should have some experience hiking long distances in the mountains.

Required Items to Bring:
• 2 - 3 liters of water.
• Comfortable hiking shoes.
• Trail snacks and lunch.
• Personal items, first aid etc.
Recommended Items to Bring:
Use our Event Checklists to make sure you have everything you need.
• Bug spray or wipes! Gnats are bad at higher elevations this time of year.
• Maybe a extra shirt for the ride home.
• A plasic bag for muddy shoes.

Event Directions:Indian Trail park 'n ride to Clayton, GA. Franklin, NC. Then highway 64 west. Detailed directions will be handed out at the park 'n ride.

Carpool Cost: Estimated cost per vehicle for this event is $99.20 using a reimbursement rate guideline of $0.400 per mile.
