Moderate to Strenuous Advanced Beginner Rapids (Class II)

NOTE: At this late date, payment due at signup!

The scenic Broad River, located in northeast Georgia 23 miles from Athens, has 70 miles of continuous navigable water. Most of this free flowing river is mild with no rapids. One section has exciting but easy Class II rapids, suitable for beginners yet fun for the more advanced paddler. The Broad also has a waterfall; an avoidable 5 ft drop which is a definite cheap thrill. The 6.5 mile section -The Broad- contains 7 shoals, each with individual ledges and sloughs.

In the past it has taken 5 to 6 hours to complete the trip. There is a good bit of paddling required so participants should be prepared for a good workout. First time kayakers should be aware that we will not have time for extensive instruction prior to starting our trip down the Broad River. After a few minutes of familiarizing themselves with their keowees or canoes we will start down the river. If you are unsure about your suitability for this trip please e-mail the trip leaders before signing up.

Required Items to Bring:
Pack lunch-waterproofed (including plenty of water)
Bathing suit or shorts and shirt (we do not suggest denim)
Water sandals (be aware that you may lose lace up or slip on shoes)
Please remember to secure your keys and id in some manner (you may want to arrange to leave them at the shore) 		Recommended Items to Bring:

How to Get There:
Event Directions:Danielsville, GA 10:30am at the Broad River Outpost 85 N to Commerce exit (441S). Go 5 miles. Take left at stop sign (Hwy 98 to Danielsville).Take left onto Hwy 29, go 1 mile. Take right onto 281. Outpost is 4 miles up on right (look for kayak out front).

Notes:

Coolers should be strapped in with a bungee (canoes only have space for a cooler)

Will this event occur rain or shine? No, not if heavy thunderstorms are forecast.

NOTE: Please be considerate of others. If you sign-up and cannot attend, please e-mail the trip leader, so others that may be on a waiting list may attend.

Cost Includes:Balance due upon sign-up to reserve your place.
$25.00 for individual keowees - Keowees are much easier to maneuver than kayaks and unlike kayaks, you do not need experince to use them. In short---they are a blast for beginners!
$25.00 to share a canoe.

$10.00 if you bring your own boat.

$1.00 per car parking donation. Pay this fee at the site.
