Itinerary:
Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park is a scenic and challenging area for intown hiking. The hiking trails pass several historic civil war sites and provide great views of the Atlanta skyline. This moderate to difficult hike will be a great way to spend part of holiday weekend. If you're looking for a more energetic hike than Grant Brown's D3 Kennesaw hike the same day, come join us!

If you are a D3 hiker, this challenging intown hike will test your strength and give you a preview of the more difficult D4 AOC hikes. On this version we will start the hike at the visitors center, make our up and across the two mountains to Pigeon Hill. After exploring the Confederate earthen works and taking a break, we'll head back over the mountains. This will not be the classic AOC power hike since we will take rest breaks and keep a slower pace of about 2.0 mph.

Keep in mind this will be a strenuous hike with a few particularly steep hills. The total elevation gain will be around 1200 feet. The distance will be about 5-6 miles. We will take rest breaks as needed and make sure the group stays together. However, it is strongly encouraged that you consider your endurance level and keep in mind this hike will be similar to climbing stairs up a 12 story building.

We'll meet at the visitor’s center outside the lobby for introductions and orientation. Please arrive early to find parking and make your way to the meeting location.

Afterward, we'll head to Marietta Square to Marietta Pizza Company for a refreshing beverage and to pack on some of the calories we burnt off. 3 Whitlock Avenue NW, Marietta, GA 30060 (770) 419-0900

How to Get There:
Event Directions:1) I-75 North to exit 267B Hwy 5 Canton Road Connector

2) If you are not heading west after getting off of the Interstate you are going the wrong way.  You should be heading towards US 41 and downtown Marietta after getting off of I-75 onto the Canton Road Connector and see Kennesaw Mountain on your right.

3) You will be tempted to take the first exit off of the Canton Road Connector which is US 41, but do not take it.  Proceed over US 41 on a bridge staying on the Canton Road Connector.

4) After crossing US 41 take a right at the first redlight which is Church Street Extenson.

5) You should cross railroad tracks soon.

6) Take a left onto Old 41 at the second redlight.  If you get to US 41 again, you have missed the turn onto Old 41 so turn around.

7) Stay on Old US 41 until you pass in front of the mountain.  Take a left at the red-light onto Stilesboro Road and then a left into the visitor's center parking lot, or park on the right-hand side of the road after passing the redlight for Stilesboro Road.

8) Last resort / panic mode / all available parking spaces have been taken:  When this happens, here is where to park - Turn around and head back in front of the mountain on Old 41.  Take the first left which is White Circle Road.  Take the first right which is White Road Court.  Park on the side of the road.
