Itinerary:

Join us on road bike ride at Stone Mountain Park.   Road bikes, hybrids and mountain bikes are welcome. On July 17th at 5:30 we will meet in front of the restrooms near Confederate Hall inside the park.   We are going to spend about 45 minutes to an hour with two amazing bike techs in the Atlanta area.  We are going back to the basics of cycling!   If you are interested in becoming a better road biker here is your chance to learn some tips from the experts.  We will learn about bike maintenance, how to change a tire and how to take care of your road bike.  We will also chat about ways to fit yourself correctly on the bike and upgrades you can make on your bike to make you a more fluid cyclist.   This will also be an information session where you can ask questions to the techs.  After about 45 minutes we are going to proceed as a group on the 5 mile loop around Stone Mountain.  We will stop along certain spots to talk about different cycling techniques that will better you as a rider.  We will focus on gear shifting, hill climbs, flat roads, downhills as well as how to hydrate yourself and what to eat.   After the first lap you have the option to stay or leave.  We will then proceed at your own pace without stopping for 5 more miles and one more lap around Stone Mountain.   This trip is a 10 mile ride.  You have the option of doing more or less.   We will meet for 10 minutes after the 10 miles and chat more about techniques we learned and do a wrap up Q & A.

We plan on grabbing dinner at a great German restaurant 2 minutes from the park if anyone feels like joining.  Road Biking is a wonderful sport and anyone can do it.   Come learn the basics on July 17th!

Event Directions:
Directions to Conferedate Hall: To the main entrance (Paid entry or annual pass)- From I-285 take U.S. Hwy 78 East (Snellville/Athens) exit. Travel about 7 miles and take Exit 8, the Stone Mountain Park Main Entrance. After entering the main entrance, proceed straight ahead. The road will fork at about 1 mile - stay to the right. Continue to follow the road for another mile. Confederate Hall will be on your left. The parking lot will be immediately after. We'll meet behind Confederate Hall near the walk up trail.

If you would like to try the free public parking in Stone Mountain Village, from Hwy 78 take exit 5 and merge onto GA 10. Proceed 0.5 miles to the first exit. At the end of the ramp turn left. Drive a mile or so, past a gas station and a funeral parlor (both on your right). When you see City Hall turn left. There is a Marta park and ride on fourth street. From there it is a short walk on East Mountain Street. Enter the park through the gate and you'll be at the parking lot where we'll be meeting.
