Itinerary:

Let's watch the sun set from the west facing bluffs of Chattahoochee!  (Note: this hike will start at the Indian Trail parking area)

We will begin the hike at the Indian Trail parking lot and walk along many trails of the East Palisades Unit making a few brief stops for photo opportunities and to hydrate. We will walk through the bamboo forest, up to the bluffs, to the "cave", back along the river, on a few of the lesser known trails, and will arrive at an overlook on the bluffs to watch the sunset. I plan to keep a quick pace on the hike to ensure that we arrive at the overlook on schedule for sunset, which will be at 8:49 PM. We will then leave the overlook and make our way back to the parking lot. The park officially closes 30 minutes after sunset, and we should have no problem being back at the cars prior to that.

The hike will be approximately 4 - 4.5 miles and there will be some steep and hilly portions that should get the heart rate up. Many of the trails have protruding rocks and roots, so be sure to wear sturdy footwear with good traction. A small LED flashlight or headlamp will be helpful, although not necessarily required.

We will meet at the East Palisades Unit, Indian Trail Parking area. There is a $3 parking fee per vehicle, unless you have an Annual Pass. Either the daily fee pass, or annual pass must be displayed in your windshield while parked.

 


Required Items to Bring:
  • Comfortable and well fitting hiking shoes/boots
  • Comfortable clothing,that is weather appropriate.
  • PLENTY OF WATER TO STAY HYDRATED (1 - 1.5 liters)

From I -285 Eastbound
- Take exit 22, Northside Drive, New Northside Drive, Powers Ferry Road.
- Right on Northside Drive.
- Travel 1.1 miles to Indian Trail (on right) and turn right.
- Indian Trail to the park entrance (0.4 miles).
- Take gravel park entrace road 0,3 miles to parking lot.

From I-285 Westbound
- Take exit 22, Northside Drive, New Northside Drive, Powers Ferry Road.
- Straight to second traffic light.
- Left on Northside Drive
- Travel 1.1 miles to Indian Trail (on right) and turn right.
- Indian Trail to the park entrance (0.4 miles).
- Take gravel park entrace road 0,3 miles to parking lot.

From I-75
- Exit onto I-285 Eastbound
- Follow directions for "From I-285 Eastbound."
