Itinerary:
I'm heading to Yosemite in late August and need a good warm-up backpacking trip.  This D5 backpack trip is for hardy and experienced backpackers.  I plan to test my older yet trustworthy gear, some new stuff and gauge my fitness level to make any corrections prior to departing for Yosemite.  If you are looking for a strenuous event with awesome scenery near Atlanta, this is for you.

FRIDAY: We'll depart Atlanta and arrive in SC.  From Jones Gap SP we'll hike approximately four miles, mostly ascending, on the Pinnacle Pass Trail and set camp.

SATURDAY: In the morning we'll head out on Naturaland Trust Trail and make our second site after eight or so miles - easiest day in terms of elevation change.  A nearby stream will be our water source.

SUNDAY:  We'll depart and hike seven miles to the car, with a solid descent.

NOTES
side trails exist, the above itinerary is the minimum hiking from site to site
water is not found on Pinnacle (FRI site).  start the hike with plenty of water
No open fires allowed, you need a stove or something similar (JetBoil)

This site has a good decription of the area and terrain: http://www.hikingtrailer.com/rim-of-the-gap-pinnacle-pass/  but we won't be on all these trails

Required Items to Bring:
backpacking gear: water purifier, water, tent, bag, backpack, hiking poles, headlamp, good boots, rain gear and food/snacks for three days

If you lack a water purifier you can still sign-up but you really should get a purifier.  Dehydration is a killer!
