Itinerary:
ChickaChatt Riverpark is an abbreviation for two excellent bike routes in the Chattanooga area. ChickaChatt is short for Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park and Riverpark is short for the Tennessee Riverpark.

This AOC biking event will be a two part bike ride approximately 27 miles in length. We'll be biking at an easy to moderate pace of about 10-12 miles per hour. The first part will be a 10-11 mile ride circling through the military park in Ft Oglethorpe GA. The second part will be a 16 mile out and back ride along the Tennessee River. Both parks offer plenty to see and do. The military park has numerous monuments and historical markers. The Riverpark runs along the river, crosses over the river by the Walnut Street Bridge, and circles through the eclectic North Shore Chattanooga district. With so much fun at hand, this ride will be a blend of exercise and recreation. We will have lunch at the end of the military park ride. At the midpoint of the Riverpark ride, we will explore the North Shore area. As we ride back, we will have dinner at a river side restaurant. See below for more details.

Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park

The military park is located in Ft Oglethorpe GA. It has over 50 miles of hiking trails and about 20 miles of paved roads with light car traffic. We will follow a circle route through the park on road with a 25mph max speed limit. So while we share the road with cars, the traffic will be minimal. In the park, we will check out the visitors center, ride past numerous monuments, see historic battle fields, and wind through a few forested areas. The area is mostly flat with few small hills and should make for easy riding. Click above for the park info and here for a route map.

Tennessee Riverpark

The Riverpark follows the Tennessee River to downtown Chattanooga. It is a paved trail (like the Silver Comet, Big Creek Greenway, and Arabia Mountain) 8 miles out and back for a total of 16miles. There are some side trails so the total distance could be a mile or two longer. About half of the trail runs directly beside the Tennessee River and will be a very scenic ride. We will start with a dramatic view at the base of the Chickamauga Dam as we unload our bikes. At the midpoint, we will cross the river on the Walnut Street Bridge (one of the largest pedestrian only bridges in the world) and explore the hip North Shore Chattanooga area (refreshments, more river views, and an optional carousel ride). On the return trip, we will have dinner at a raw bar with deck views of the river. Click above for Riverpark info and a route map. NOTE: The Riverpark is very popular and we'll likely be sharing the trail with walkers, joggers, and baby strollers.

While the total event duration is 10 hours, the total ride time will be much less. This will give us plenty time to visit both the military park and explore North Shore Chattanooga. Depending on our preferences, the total event time may be shorter.

**PLEASE NOTE**
You are responsible for your bike maintenance and/or repairs on the trail. Please be aware that any repairs will substantially impact the trip. We'll be far from home and may not be able to fix some repairs. Make sure you complete a pre-ride maintenance check a fews days prior to the event. Also, please consider safety preparations and use a bike Helmet. NHTSB (National Highway Traffic Safety Adminstration) data demonstrates that wearing a bicycle helmet is the number one way to prevent injury and death as a result of a bicycle accident. See the NHTSA site for info on bicycle safety and helmet use.
