Itinerary:
Moderate 8-10 miles of hiking

Chickamauga was one of the bloodiest battles of the Civil War with the loss of more than 18,000 Confederate troops and 16,000 Federal troops. The battlefield was dense woods and thick underbrush unlike other Civil War battles fought in open fields.

The forest conditions you see today are much the same as the soldiers saw them in September 1863. There are about 40 miles of trails in the park; we will hike about 8-10 miles crossing several different trails. While snaking our way acrossing the park, we will stop to read numerous historical markers and gaze at several beautiful and haunting memorials to the men that died here. About half way, we will stop for lunch at a nice spot.

The terrain is low rolling hills, none of which are steep or difficult. For this hike, it is the length that increases the difficulty. ONLY those in good/excellent physical shape should participate. I hike at a moderate pace and hope to complete this hike in 4 hours with 1/2 hour for lunch.
