Itinerary:
The weather is finally cooling off. You know what that means? It's time for some cooler weather backpacking! Beginner backpackers welcome. It will be about 10 miles round trip.

Everybody break out your collapsible fly rods or Pocket Fisherman... or hell, tie some dental floss on the end of your hiking pole... I don't care either way. Go buy a fishing license if you don't have one (no, you cannot borrow mine and pretend you're me) and pack up your tackle. It's time to show our dominance over a lower life-form by pulling it out of its normal habitat and cooking it over a fire.

The Chattooga River is renowned as some of the best fly fishing in the area. After Nov. 1 it's catch and release only until May 14 but until then, it's a 10 fish max so now is the time to go! For more info about fishing regulations on the Chatooga, go here.

Be sure to bring a backup dinner, and know that you are responsible for whatever you catch... if I have to clean your fish for you, I'm also going to eat it for you :-) If you're a novice at cleaning fish and don't want me eating your catch, watch this.

We will start from the parking lot and head down the Foothill's Trail to the Chattooga River Trail. If y'all want, we'll turn left and head down a little ways to check out Pigpen Falls and Licklog Falls. We'll turn around and begin our trek along the Chattooga Trail which is a moderate to flat trail that runs along the Chattooga River. We'll find an open campsite along the river, set up camp and drop some lines in the water :)

Sunday morning we'll LEISURELY pack up (feel free to sleep in a little), make breakfast, and head back to the cars. We'll stop to eat lunch on the road.
