Itinerary:
For those of you that have never hiked on the AT, now you can say that you have. Siler bald is a peak that the AT crosses and has 360 degrees views of the nearby mountains and Nantahala lake.  Siler bald elevation is 5,215 ft.  We will drive up from Atlanta to winding stair gap friday evening, which will take about 2 ½ hours. Make sure that you have your headlamps handy as we will be hiking up in the dark. we will hike together as a group so no one gets lost in the dark. The peak of the full moon is on Monday night, but hopefully the moon will be bright enough that we will not have to use our lights.

From winding stair gap we will begin our hike up to the summit of Siler bald, which is about 4 miles.  After summiting in the dark we will then head down and setup camp at the base of Siler bald.  For those of you who would like to brave camping on the actual summit, feel free to do so.

Saturday morning we will eat breakfast and then head out for a 10 mile round trip hike to Wayah bald fire tower. Make sure that your bring a small daypack and 2 liters water and lunch. Once back at camp we will build a fire, eat dinner and tell stories about tall tales of backpacking.  Sunday morning, for the early birds, we will hike up siler bald for sunrise and breakfast.  After sunrise we will head down to camp, pack everything up, and be on the trail by 10am. Hopefully we will be back in Atlanta by 1pm.
