Itinerary:
Are you ready to explore a different section of the Silver Comet Trail?

Our bike ride will begin at the Coot's Lake Trailhead (mile marker 33.5), which is a paved lot with a porta-potty.  (We should be able to use the real bathrooms at the Coot's Lake store.)  We'll venture west riding thru Rockmart into Cedartown.  After we pass Rockmart though, the paved path becomes very hilly for several miles.  Some of the hills are rolling while others are long and steep. There's even a sharp curve that can be challenging if you are going too fast.
We'll stop at the Cedartown Depot (mile marker 51.4) for a picnic lunch.

The Cedartown Depot was restored in 2004 is a replica of the original Seaboard Airline Railway depot. The depot serves as the Cedartown Welcome Center, and a Silver Comet trailhead. It has nice restrooms, water, maps, and a Silver Comet Museum. The depot is staffed during the day, and is a few blocks from historic downtown Cedartown. The restrooms are only open during business hours.

After a picnic lunch break, we'll ride back to the Coot's Lake trailhead on the same route.

We'll keep a moderate pace with a minimum of 12 mph and bike a total of
36 miles roundtrip.

There won't be an officical carpool location, but your TL's will try to network with the group to see if there's someone in your area that you can meet up with.

This biking event is not suited for beginners because of total mileage and steep grades.

Here's a map of the Silver Comet if you are interested.

Biking Etiquette:
The Silver Comet Trail is a paved multi-use path, which we'll be sharing with runners, walkers, joggers, bicyclists, strollers, dogs, and lots of squirrels. Yes, squirrels and lots of them. lol :)

Here's some things to keep in mind while you are biking:

- Be considerent of others on the trail.

- Be aware of your surroungings at all times.

- Stay on your side of the trail unless you are planning to pass someone that is coming up on your right.

- Don't assume someone knows you are coming up behind them to pass. When you pass someone on the right, you should always give a simple shout "on your left".  People are very appreciative of this and will normally say "thank ya", give a wave or even just a quick nod.

 - Don't ride in the middle of the trail, especially if you see bicyclists, walkers, runners, joggers, etc. coming toward you. If you are in conversation then slowly back off and fall behind so people coming toward you aren't forced to yell nasty things.
