Strenuous 9.6 Miles

Note: My hikes are leisure speed at 2 to 2.5 miles an hour....with plenty of breaks for water and snacks....if you are fast hiker and wants to hike fast, this may not be the hike for you.

Yellow Mountain is one of the tallest mountain in Highlands, North Carolina at 5,127 feet (Brasstown Bald in GA is 4,788). It was recognized as National Historic Lookout in 1992. On the top of the mountain, Fire Tower built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in 1934 is standing. Decommissioned in 1969, this tower will give you an amazing 360 degree view of the surrounding area. Being part of the Forrest Service, the trail is not well marked and maintained, but the view from the top of the mountain is well worth the hike (it was quite breath taking).

Required Items to Bring:
Plenty of sports drink or water (I took 4 liters last time and it was not enough for me). and Lunch. If you have a hiking shoes, its better. Trekking pole are good if you have them, if not you can find a walking stick on the trail.
Recommended Items to Bring:
Use our Event Checklists to make sure you have everything you need.
