Ever wonder how people got around in the days before GPS and On Star? After just a short lesson well have you walking through the woods using a map and compass like a pro.
We will begin with an introduction to basic map reading, compass skills and using a pace count to measure distance. After lunch we will turn you loose (individually or in pairs) into the woods to follow an established course set up in the park. If you are good enough to find all the points and complete the puzzle on the map sheet, you will be eligible to receive a prize.

Recommended Items to Bring:
Use our Event Checklists to make sure you have everything you need.
Compass (A Silva Polaris 177 or Brunton Classic 9020G are good basic models that can be found for around $10 at most outdoor stores)
Small Notebook and Pencil or Pen
Water
Snacks/Lunch
Appropriate Clothing- You may have to walk through some brush and could get dirty.

Event Directions:Cartersville, GA 10 am at the park store 45 minutes north of Atlanta near Cartersville, 1.5 miles east of I-75 exit #285

NOTE: Please be considerate of others. If you sign-up and cannot attend, please e-mail the trip leader, so others that may be on a waiting list may attend. E-mail the trip leader to be put on a waiting list if the trip is at the max number of attendees.
