Itinerary:
Please join me for a leisurely hike through the Nature Trail at Stone Mountain Park..followed by a trip up the famous walk up trail for what we can hope will be a fantastic sunset from the summit.

We will start the hike off on the Nature Trail it is a short but scenic wooded trail with great trees, rocks and "streams". I will be keeping a pretty leisurely pace for both. Feel free to take pictures and move at your own pace for the most part during this trip especially once we get to the walk up trail. The sunset is at 7:21 so this should give us plenty of time to reach the summit. If we have time when we reach the summit we can cross down to the east side of the mountain if everyone is up for it. Or we can play it by ear as to what the group prefers.

Currently the forecast shows  partly cloudy skies with no showers. Hopefully this will be a perfect evening to catch the sun set with just a few clouds to cast out some additional colour.

Required Items to Bring:
Please be sure to wear comfortable shoes with good traction.  Bring adequate water and a snack if you like.

Since this is a sunset hike i would recommend a flash light or head lamp for our descent

How to Get There:
Event Directions:DIRECTIONS: To the main entrance- From I-285 take U.S. Hwy 78 East (Snellville/Athens) exit. Travel about 7 miles and take Exit 8, the Stone Mountain Park Main Entrance. After entering the main entrance, proceed straight ahead. The road will fork at about 1 mile - stay to the right. Continue to follow the road for another mile to the Confederate Hall parking lot which will be on your left. We'll meet (at 6:15 p.m.) in front of the Whistle Stop Station restroom area, which is just beyond the parking lot.
FREE PARK AND WALK: For free public parking in Stone Mountain Village, from Hwy 78 take exit 5 and merge onto GA 10. Proceed 0.5 miles to the first exit. At the end of the ramp turn left. Drive a mile or so, past a gas station and a funeral parlor (both on your right). When you see City Hall turn left. There is a Marta park-and-ride between 4th and 5th streets. From there it is a short walk on East Mountain Street. Enter the park through the gate, and cross the parking lot to the restroom area where we'll be meeting.
