The forecast is looking awesome for Sunday morning. Should be perfect for breathing in cool air and working up a sweat. We'll meet at the base of the "Walk-Up Trail" (the usual place for AOC hikes at the restroom building by the train tracks near Confederate Hall - see directions and parking options below). We'll be going to the top of Stone Mountain and back twice, hiking/jogging at a fast pace. Each round trip from our meeting point at the restroom building is about 2 miles so it's a total of 4 miles.  At "hand rail hill" and the last steep section we will sprint up. On the first time up we will only stop on top to catch our breath. At the bottom we will get a quick drink and start back up. The second time on top we will relax and enjoy the view.

Free parking is available at the MARTA PARK 'n RIDE lot in Stone Mountain Village, with free entrance into the park via an easy 7-minute walk to our meeting point.  Please take the time to look at the linked maps and parking options in order to be on time!

Any questions? - email me.

How to Get There:
Event Directions:
DIRECTIONS via the STONE MTN PARK MAIN ENTRANCE ($10 daily Parking Fee or Annual Pass):
From I-285 take U.S. Hwy 78 East (Snellville/Athens) exit. Travel about 7 miles and take Exit 8 to the Stone Mountain Park Main Entrance.  Pay the $10 per vehicle daily parking fee if you don't have an annual pass.  After entering the main entrance, proceed straight ahead. The road will fork at about 1 mile - stay to the right. Continue to follow the road for another mile. Confederate Hall will be on your left. (Careful - there's a stop sign in front of Confederate Hall for those entering the West Gate.) The parking lot will be immediately after on your left. We'll meet at the Restroom Building just east of Confederate Hall. This is at the base of the Walk-Up Trail beside the RR track.

DIRECTIONS via the FREE MARTA PARK & RIDE LOT Free public parking is available in Stone Mountain Village with free pedestrian entrance into the Park via an easy 7-min. walk.
From Hwy 78 take Exit #5 - stay right for just a half mile - then exit rightward toward "Stone Mtn Village." At the end of the ramp turn left onto E. Ponce de Leon. Drive a mile or so into town, passing straight through the first traffic light at Memorial Drive. Turn left at the second traffic light onto E. Mountain Street. Then turn right onto Fourth Street. In a half block you will find the MARTA park and ride.  To reach our meeting point walk back out to E. Mountain Street, turn right down the sidewalk, and it's about a 7-minute walk to the free pedestrian entrance into the Park at the end of Mountain Street. Our meeting point at the Restroom Building at the base of the Walk-Up Trail is about 100 yards straight ahead across the Confederate Hall parking lot.

Notes:
There is no per-person Stone Mtn Park admission fee, and pedestrians or cyclists may enter and leave via all the Park entrances for free.  If you choose to drive directly into the Park the daily parking fee is $10.  Also for about $30 you can buy an annual Park parking pass for at least 12 months after your purchase.
