Itinerary:
Two moderate 2.5 mile hikes

NOTE: Date changed from 2/25.

These two separate hikes showcase two different waterfalls in same general area, both beautiful in their own right. Dukes Creek waterfall is 200 feet tall, and is seen from a viewing deck at the bottom of the hill after a relatively easy hike down a ‘switchbacked’ trail to the bottom. It is better to see them this time of year before the tourist season when the parking lot is jammed and full of people.

The next hike to High Schoals gets more popular in spring, summer with campers, and are lesser known to the tourist crowd and more remote, in wilder area; as the graveled road to the two waterfalls here attest. The two waterfalls are quite beautiful and different from each other in appearance. The trail down into the valley is well developed and both are viewed from well built wooden decks as well, but still gorgeous to look at and take pictures of. The hike out is also uphill, and you will feel as if you’ve earned your dinner after this one is done. Those who chose can dine afterwards at Ricks in Dahlonega, an inexpensive, gourmet quality food restaurant, just off the Dahlonega square. I will split the group before the trip into dining and non-dining folks, for those wishing to return earlier.
