Itinerary:
There are many scenic vistas in the Great Smoky Mountain National Park, but none other provides so much beauty as Mount Leconte. Mt. Leconte is the third highest peak in the park towering at 6,593 ft.

We will be hiking up Alum Cave Trail; which is the shortest but the steepest of the five trails that lead to the top of Mt. Leconte. Total elevation gain is 2763 ft.

Friday: we will meet at Indian Trail Park & Ride at 6:30pm, load up the cars and people, and be on the road by 6:45pm. Drive time to Deep Creek Ranger Station should be 3 hours. Once there we will throw on the packs and hit the trail for a easy 3 mile night hike to campsite #60.

Saturday: get up early, eat breakfast and break camp. We will then hike back to the cars, load up, and drive up to Alum Cave Trail. When we get to Alum Cave Trail, we can resupply our water in the creek before heading up the trail. We will stop and enjoy the scenic views from Alum Cave Bluff as we eat our lunch, and who knows, maybe we will be entertained by the red squirrels that frequent the area. After lunch we'll make the final push to the top. Hopefully we'll be the first ones at the shelter to lay claim on the best sleeping spots. At this time you are on your own to move about the mountain and the lodge until right before sunset. At that time we will then head over to cliff tops to enjoy a beautiful sunset.

Sunday: for those early risers, we will get up and head over to myrtle point before sunrise and eat breakfast. After sunrise we'll head back to the shelter pack up and head down trail to the parking lot and head back for Atlanta.
