This note is here so that you can make an informed decision. When a Trip Leader isn't personally familiar with a trip, there is an increased chance of things not going as planned and you need to be prepared. The Trip Leader may have additional details in the itinerary.

Itinerary:
Cavers,

Crownover Saltpeter is a great cave located in Franklin County TN.  It is an old saltpeter mine that has been used for centuries for various needs and saltpeter is the middle ingredient for making GUNPOWDER!!

There are plenty of passages to explore and investigate in this 2.67 mile long cave.  We will try to find the "Basement," and if we do this can become a five hour trip and the reason for this being a D3+Exploratory.  We will take time crawling in smaller groups to find interesting crawls and formations.

Sherwood Tn, where the cave is located, is on Central time Zone.  The 11:00 am start is central time, so 12:00 pm eastern.  The Carpool time is 9:00 am eastern, leaving there by 9:15 eastern will keep the trip on schedule so please do not be late.  Google maps puts the trip from kennesaw cct/park and ride at 3 hours.  I can not make the carpool at this time and will be meeting the group at Stevenson Municipal Airport in Alabama.  A few of us will be camping overnight near Chattanooga (read optional).

This cave can be done by a beginner that is in good physical shape.  I would prefer anyone on this trip to have completed at least a D2 cave and have been on at least one Stone Summit climbing trip.  We will be crawling around and taking time to explore passages.  I recommend that the less adventuresome bring a jacket if they are going to be waiting on the crawlers to come back.

Optional:

I have reserved a campsite near Chattanooga.  Anyone wanting to make this more than just a cave trip is welcome to come.  Bring your tent.  I have all the details and there are showers and bathrooms.  Cost is $4.
