Itinerary:

Rain and a cold front are moving in so I thought I would throw out a Cochran Shoals hike. I've been here before but don't know the trails by heart. The trails are very well marked and I'll have a map. Sign up if you want to come explore these trails with me or bonus points if you know them and want to provide some guidance. I plan to take the gravel road up, cut in to the woods, do some trails through there and then come out further up on the road and walk along the gravel road and water as the light fades. We'll hike an hour in and an hour out. We should cover 4.5 or 5 miles.

I would highly recommend bringing a small flashlight or headlamp. It shouldn't get too dark, but better safe than sorry. Sunset is 7:01PM.

Dogs are allowed on this hike. I would like to continue to allow dogs on my hikes so please cooperate with the posted rules. AOC is very visible and it is important we portray a good image. Off leash dogs have been known to chase animals, injure animals and stir up bees resulting in other members being stung. Also, please keep in mind that not everyone enjoys a wet, dirty, and often smelly dog shaking in front of them and running between them. A leashed dog allows the owner to better control it and makes the hike more comfortable for all involved. Please carefully read the excerpt from nps.gov regarding dogs at all Chattahoochee National Parks:

Dogs are allowed on the trails in the park but they must remain on a leash at all times. Leashes may not exceed six feet and are required for the safety of visitors as well as the dogs themselves. Pet owners are required to clean up after their dogs and dispose of the waste properly. Most locations have bags provided but bring extras in case they are depleted. Cleaning up after pets helps to protect the water quality of the river.

Please be prepared to carry and be responsible for your own keys, beverages, snacks and any other items you may need on the hike. We are all adults and it should not be anyone elses responsibility to carry your items on the hike.
