Itinerary:
Lets get up to Tallulah Gorge and check out the Sunday Whitewater release...they only have these a few times a year and Sunday is the best day with 700 CFS flow.  Here are the details:

On a typical day, the water flow through the gorge is 35-40 CFS (cubic feet per second). During aesthetic releases, the flow is 200 CFS, and during whitewater releases, the flow is 500 CFS on Saturday and 700 CFS on Sunday.

2011 Aesthetic Flows will be held on:
- Wednesday, Oct. 19 & Friday, Oct. 2
1
- Saturday, Oct. 29 & Sunday, Oct. 30
2011 Whitewater Releases will be held on:
- Saturday, Nov. 5 & Sunday, Nov.6
- Saturday, Nov. 12 & Sunday, Nov. 13
- Saturday, Nov. 19 & Sunday, Nov. 20

We will walk around the perimeter of the gorge and then down the 300 steps to the bridge. Then back up all those steps and to the other overlooks, including "Inspiration Point", the highest elevation point in the park..great view from up there.

Then we will try to find a good spot to watch the kayakyers tackle the river.  It's a long ways down from where we will be, so bring binoculars if you have them.

After a few hours at Tallulah Gorge, we will head a short ways south to the Panther Creek Falls trailhead.  The water release is our main focus though, so if we do not have time to do the full out and back Panther Creek hike, there is a shortcut trail we should be able to take down there.  Or if we have enough cars, we could set up a shuttle and do it that way...just be prepared to be flexible with this part.  It will probably be 4 miles, but it could be 1 mile or could be 7.  But the trail is fairly flat so don't be intimidated by 7 if that's what it turns out to be.

Each vehicle can decide if they want to stop for dinner afterwrds, but if you just head back to the carpool after Panther Creek, expect to be back by about 7:30pm, if not earlier.
