Itinerary:

The North Georgia mountains may not be the Rockies (or the Himalayas), but they include many mtns that make for superb hikes and offer incredible views.  For this series, we are counting down the highest peaks in GA...

#1 - Brasstown Bald

Standing 4784' above sea level with 2107' of clean prominence, Brasstown Bald is the tallest mtn in GA. The view from the observation platform is definitely one of the finest in the state...you can see most all of the other highest mtns in GA as well as into NC, TN, and SC.

This hike out and back on the Arkaquah Trail (plus BB walkup trail) is approximately 12 miles round trip with only a few rest breaks...there is approx 4000' of total ascent on this entire route.  This is a challenging hike with steep inclines.

We will start at Trackrock Gap, immediately climbing 1500 ft to Roost Ridge.  Following the ridge eastwards, we will pass Chimneytop Mtn to Brasstown Bald.  After a short break to take in the magnfiicent panoramic views, we will retrace our steps back to the trailhead.
