Itinerary:
ABOUT THE PARK:  As one of Fulton County's largest forested nature preserves, beautiful Cochran Mill Park is always a fun place to visit, even during this week of the winter solstice when the sun sets earlier than at any other time of year- about 5:30 pm.  The park's extensive trail system takes hikers past pretty rock shoals, waterfalls and historic ruins of 150-year-old antebellum mills and dams.  Cochran Mill Nature Center is on the north end of the trails and offers some more nice things to see and do.

HIKE PLAN: Note that due to an apparent lack of interest we've DELETED the optional 1:20 PM carpooling meetup spot that had been suggested at the I-85 Cleveland Ave exit.  We'll ALL gather in the Cochran Mill Park parking lot between 1:45 and 2:00 - see detailed directions below).  We'll begin by hiking trails that are between Bear Creek and Little Bear Creek. We'll then cross a bridge to the north bank of Bear Creek and continue in a loop that takes us past the Nature Center, then back southward toward our vehicles.  We'll hike at a moderate pace for about 5 or 6 miles (2.5 to 3 hours) so please bring plenty of water, perhaps a snack, and wear comfortable shoes and layered clothing appropriate for the weather.

Required Items to Bring:

Wear comfortable Hiking Shoes or Boots and warm layers of Clothing appropriate for the weather, plus a warm Cap and Gloves if it's cold.

For the hike, hydrate well in advance and carry at least one liter of Water with you.
Recommended Items to Bring:
Use our Event Checklists to make sure you have everything you need.

If you have a pair of Trekking Poles consider bringing and using them.  A single Hiking Stick also is a good idea.

Consider bringing your Camera, since there are many nice photo ops.
