Itinerary:
Join me for a moderate but invigorating hike on Section 1 of the Benton Mackaye Trail (BMT).  This trail has it's southern terminus at Springer Mtn (just like the AT), and it's northern terminus is at Davenport Gap just outside of Great Smoky Mtn Natl Park.  It has some beautiful sections and we will enjoy one today on this approx 12 mile hike. We hike up to Springer Mtn. Where some might like to register. After enjoying the Scenery for a while we will hike north .2 mile to BMT Trail. It winds around and crosses back over FS 42. We will cross road and go over several creeks (rock hop) we will intersect the AT we will continue where it will intersect the AT again we will cross over for about 2 miles and it will intersect the AT again We will turn left toward 3-forks and continue to Long Creek Falls or turn around and go back on the AT. Where we wil have lunch alone the way.
Since weather in Mountains is subject to be guite colder that in Atlanta it could be much colder than than expected so please be prepared.
