Itinerary:

Okay, you've been top rope climbing for a while and now you are ready to lead climb, but you don't know where to start. I made arrangements with one of the instructors at Stone Summit to teach a private class for AOC members.

You will learn:
- proper rope preparation
- correct and incorrect clipping techniques
- basic lead belaying
- lead rope climbing skills
- how to fall and catch a fall

During the class you lead climb while other participants lead belay. The climber will also be tied into a top rope controlled by the instructor. This provides good safety while learning the skills of climbing and belaying.

The purpose of the class is to teach the skills you need to BEGIN lead climbing.  You will not be qualified to go out and do any lead climb you want to.

Required Items to Bring:

Harness, climbing shoes, belay device and carabiner.  You can use Stone Summits rental equipment if you don't have your own.

You may use the belay device of your choice.
Recommended Items to Bring:
Use our Event Checklists to make sure you have everything you need.
You may consider bringing a climbing helmet.  You will practice falling on the lead rope.

If this is your first time at Stone Summit, get there a few minutes early and fill-out the waiver.
