Itinerary:
This is a fitness hike for intermediate to advanced hikers. Beginning at the Amicalola State Park visitor center, we will hike the base of the falls trail (including 604 step staircase the "first mile"), and then hike the AT Approach trail. We will turn onto the Len Foote Trail and hike a mile to Len Foote Hike Inn, where we will stop for a break and to eat a snack/lunch. We will return back on the AT Approach trail, and back down to the visitor's center. Total hiking distance is about 12-13 miles.

I have listed this as a fitness hike because we will maintain a steady pace with very limited rest breaks, except to enjoy our lunch and a beverage at the Len Foote Inn.  Also, the hike will exceed 10 miles with above-average elevation gains.  The pace will be moderate to fast. Fast hikers may go ahead of the group but will be expected to wait at all trail splits for the rest of the group to catch up.

This hike is for those in very good physical condition and with experience on D5 events.  The trip leaders reserve the right to remove any person who might not have the appropriate experience to attend this hike.

After the hike, we plan to stop to eat somewhere (probably Dawsonville or the park's Maple restaurant at the lodge). If you need to get back to Atlanta early on this day, please take that into consideration and drive separately or carpool with others who wish to skip dinner and return to Atlanta at an earlier time.

The total amount should be divided by the number of people in the vehicle, including the driver. This is a guideline, not a rule, for drivers but the cost should not be higher unless there are extenuating circumstances.

Notes:
The Len Foote Inn often graciously provides coffee, tea, fruit and leftovers (if available) as snacks for day hikers.  Please remember to bring enough money to tip appropriately if you choose to take advantage of this courtesy.

There is a $5.00 State Park Fee to park unless you have an annual park pass.

At the time of this posting, the weather report is good. I will cancel only if rain appears imminent and it is cold.
