Itinerary: | |||||||
Join me on a nice altertnate route to Blood Mountain that will work your appetite up just in time for lunch at the summit! Our adventure will begin in the parking area for Lake Winfield in Suches GA. Here we will take the trail head for Slaughter Creek to the start of Jarrad Gap Trail (.75 miles). Once on the Jarrad Gap Trail we will meet up with the AT (1.25) and take it towards Bird Gap (1.5). At this spot, after breaking for a short time, we will take the Freeman Trail to Flatrock Gap (1.9) and jump back on the AT to Blood Mountain (1.4) to enjoy a nice well deserved lunch (total mileage so far 6.8). Hopefully, if the weather holds up, we can sit on top of the rock and enjoy a beautiful view. If it's raining, we can also enjoy fellowship while sitting inside of the shelter. FYI whoever brings me chocolate chip cookies will be my hero :-) After Lunch, we will continue on the AT to the easy breezy Slaughter Creek Trail, and return back to our cars (3.5) Due to the mileage involved before lunch, I recommend bringing trail snacks to munch on during a few of our breaks, unless you are Master Chief (seen below on top of Blood Mountain) who doesn't need such silly things as snacks. ![]() | |||||||

The total amount should be divided by the number of people in the vehicle, including the driver.
