Itinerary:
THIS IS THE SECOND CHATTANOON HIKE IN 2012.

The ChattaNoon Hikes are very suitable for Newbies and Beginners. Why? We are not planning to set new speed records. If we hike close to four miles only, at a little slower pace, that's OK too. We'll get our heart rates up though. We may even sweat a bit, but you won't need a shower before going back to work. All ten hikes will be at different places at the Chattahoochee NRA, beginning at Noon. Ah, that's why they are called ChattaNoon Hikes. Please be on time, because we will leave on time ... some need to get back to work.

Come and join me on the trails at Sope Creek - Unit of the Chattahoochee NRA. Sope Creek is named for a Cherokee Indian who lived along its banks. The Indians had been removed by law from the area in 1838, but somehow Old Chief Sope managed to remain.

The stone ruins along the creek are remnants of the Marietta Paper Mill which produced a large portion of the South's paper from 1855 to 1902. Union troops burned the original mills in 1864.

This is a rain, shine, or snow hike (except under extreme thunder storm warning).

If you have any questions e-mail the Event Coordinator.
