Itinerary:
This is an anniversary trip for your TLs, who hiked this park in the pouring rain a year ago.  You can read about that trip here:  http://www.atlantaoutdoorclub.com/events/archivedetails.asp?eventid=3190.  We'll definitely hope for better weather this year!

Located in Georgia's Blue Ridge Mountains, Black Rock Mountain State Park is Georgia's highest state park.  On clear days, hikers enjoy 80 mile vistas, including three states.  According to the Park's website, the hikes include streams, creeks, numerous overlooks, and beautiful views of the Southern Appalachian mountains.

We will walk four trails in the park, totaling approximately 11 miles, and including the following:
 
1) James E. Edmond Backcountry Trail.  This is a moderate to strenuous 7.2 mile loop, which includes a walk beside the meandering Taylor Creek and a fabulous view of the Little Tennessee Valley from a rock outcropping on Lookoff Mountain.

2) Ada-Hi Falls Trail.  Only .5 miles.  Short, but strenuous.

3) Tennessee Rock Trail.  This is a 2.2 mile loop, described as easy, but with great views.

4) Black Rock Trail Lake.  An easy loop of less than one mile around a scenic lake.

Because your TLs have only hiked this park on one occasion, there is always the possibility that we will miss a turn.  Certainly, we will be well prepared with the appropriate maps.  Nevertheless, you should be in good enough physical condition to walk extra distances if we should make a mistake.

Note 1:  Following the hike, we will stop to have a group dinner.  If you need to get back to Atlanta immediately, you will need to drive separately or arrange a carpool with other hikers who cannot stay for dinner.

Note 2:  If you are not an experienced hiker, or do not have previous D4 and D5 experience, this hike will be too strenuous for you.  The TLs on this hike will contact hikers who do not have recent D4 and D5 experience, and reserve the right to remove any person from the list.  This is for the safety of the individual hiker and to insure the entire group can maintain an appropriate pace.

    Carpool Cost: Estimated cost per vehicle for this event is $72.80 using a reimbursement rate guideline of $0.400 per mile. The total amount should be divided by the number of people in the vehicle, including the driver. This is a guideline, not a rule, for drivers but the cost should not be higher unless there are extenuating circumstances.

    There is a $5 parking fee, unless you have a State Park parking pass.
